How Braided Sleeving Saved The Day

Investing a small amount into a project can sometimes make a significant difference. Manuel Llamas, who runs the @909Chevelle Instagram page, knows from experience. He retold his story to his followers in an unsponsored video about the Painless Performance Products® ClassicBraid™ Performance Wiring Wrap Kit. Llamas said he spent about $200 on the kit and then applied it to the wire harnesses on his 1968 Chevrolet C10, not realizing at that time what a fortuitous move he had just made.
‘It saved my wire harness from going up in flames,’ he said.

A small fire broke out under the hood of his C10 while he was at an event in August 2022. Bystanders doused it with cups of water and a fire extinguisher, successfully snuffing it out within 30 seconds. A power steering hose leak on the driver’s side started the fire, causing minor damage to his vehicle. He said any wire wrapped with the ClassicBraid™ , however, remained intact and untouched, while other items in his truck that were not wrapped in it, were scorched.

‘For less than $200 I saved myself thousands in electrical damage,’ Llamas wrote in the post

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) sleeving is not intended to prevent wire fires, but having quality braided sleeving designed for automotive use, like the kit Llamas applied to his wires, provided additional protection that saved his irreplaceable classic truck from destruction. (Spoiler alert: Llamas purchased a subsequent kit to replace the braid consumed in the blaze, which had saved the wire harnesses underneath it). This type of product can provide a driver and passengers extra time to exit a vehicle that has caught fire, which could also be the difference between life and death. ‘This kit was a lifesaver,’ Llamas stated at the conclusion of his video
